Project Overview

Technological Pioneers is a series of posters focused on three inventors: Hedy Lamarr, Louis Braille, and Tim Berners Lee. Meant to be displayed in the Museum of Science and Industry, this unified poster series and motion piece was created to convey the indvidual inventors and showcase their impact on technology.

Sketches

What did these inventors have in common? How could I create a poster series that connected them all? Well, in order to answer those questions the first step was to sketch. With a timer set for 10 minutes, I had to come up with a word that related to all three subjects and sketch a few layouts that represented them. I also recieved input from my classmates with different poster topics to get their insights. A few words and concepts I came up with were Duality, Connection, Hidden, and Beyond Their Time.

Digital Iterations

Once the sketches were made, it was time for the computer. I ended up using the word “Obscurity” to describe the three inventors because each individual invented something that was monumental in the ways people communicated with each other; however, none of them were recognized for those inventions until much later on in their lives. I played a lot with layering and texture, but kept the grid and accent elements the same throughout to help create a cohesive series.

Motion Spotlight Piece

In my motion studio, I was tasked to create a promotional short video for one of the subjects. I decided on doing Louis Braille.
